Katie Couric close to kissing The Eye goodbye?
The Wall Street Journal has broken a story that executives with CBS News and "people close to Katie Couric" are both saying the recently appointed "CBS Evening News" anchor is "likely" to jump ship several years before her contract is set to expire in 2011.
The former "Today Show" bundle of sunshine joined CBS in June '06 amidst the most ebullient media hoopla since man landed on the moon. CBS' evening report had been the perennial loser amongst the Top Three networks, and the addition of America's Sweetheart was seen as a surefire ratings booster.
Whoops. "CBS Evening News" now regularly trails both ABC and NBC by about two million viewers a night. This is in addition to all three broadcasts facing a steady loss of viewership.
This news is purely speculative at this point. Neither CBS or Couric's people have said anything publicly. But the Journal believes Couric may leave shortly after the presidential inauguration next year. And really, it all makes pretty good sense.
Personally, I don't watch the CBS news. If you do, and have any insight into how Katie's been doing, or if it's a surprise she may soon leave, drop us a line.

I get all my news from Sean Hannity, so you're asking the wrong guy here.
