Making the Band 4: All You Want and More

Being new to this blog, I feel that I will be able to add a component that no other blogger on Channel Surfing can -- the viewing and evaluation of really, really crappy TV. It's kind of my guilty pleasure, except that nearly all the television I watch is really crappy TV. I'm easily entertained. Sure, some people may call that Attention Deficit Disorder or an inability to process smart TV, but I call it FOX and MTV's dream demographic.

So, now that you know my television-blogging goal, let's get on with the show!

It's been a drama-filled, gratituitous at times, Diddy-filled season so far. That's right, Making the Band 4 is back and it's making really bad music! This season's premise joins three entities together for a record-making, or -breaking, battle of dopest pop songs: Danity Kane, Day 26 and of course Donnie (aka: the wannabe Justin Timberlake.)

The three platinum CD-hopefuls are all living in the same house, using the same bathrooms and listening to the same 'ol Diddy. Obviously, numerous reality TV equations come into play here.

Hot girls + living with hot boys = flirting, hooking up and drama.

Tough boys + living and working with hot-tempered boys = fist fights, bleeped-out words and drama.

Diddy + his own show to say anything he wants on = "B****assness."

If there's one thing you have to take away from Making the Band 4, don't let it be an interest in these people's lives, or a desire to purchase any of the Bad Boy Family CDs. Instead, let it be full use in everyday conversation of the phrase "B****assness." By definition, it's described as thinking you're better than those around you and not being a team player or being "uncool" through any actions, words, singing, etc. At times, it gets to the point where Diddy issues a news flash of someone having a lot of "B****assness." It's a serious condition.

Moving on and looking ahead, last night's episode had a number of really great breakthroughs for the band, Day 26. With so many different brothas, it's hard to imagine the group coming together and being a cohesive group - especially since they were in competition for so long before getting on "tha band." It seemed tense for a while when Brian and Robert nearly came to blows over who would take a shower first - but luckily, they realized it may not be a huge issue worth drawing blood over. Close call. Thanks to good 'ol Uncle Anhky, the boys learn to appreciate each other for the cliche, pop stars they are. Aww, tender moments.

Best part of the episode: Diddy invites the crew to join in on a yacht ride for a session of "get to know Puffy." The bands, and Donnie, of course, ask P.Dids questions like if he's ever fallen in love, what it's like to be him (to which he answers from a humble perspective - note: dripping sarcasm) and how to follow in his footsteps. Diddy admits it's not about the money while wearing tons of bling and talking on his diamond-encrusted Blackberry.

Then it's the D-I-D-D-Y's turn. First question: who does an impression of me? Donnie breaks out with an extremely poor man's version of Diddy, "The ladies have spoken and they want the shades off." Classic. Oh yeah, then Diddy gives a shout out to a passing boat, seemingly carrying a bunch of senior citizens, and says, "That's right, it's me! It's Diddy, it's really me!" Good stuff.

Or, how about the blog maintains a shred of dignity and no one covers American Idol ... please?!

No "Idol," except for when Adam is writing false histories. That can be arranged.

However, I can't prevent Sara from writing about "America's Best Dance Crew" with AC Slater as host. That was part of the promise when we brought her on board ...

I'm not going to lie. I thought about covering "American Idol" for fun. You know, I've never seen a full episode of the show...

Last night was apparently all Beatles songs. I'm sure if John Lennon were alive he would have considered that his biggest and brightest accomplishment.

My respect for you just quadrupled, MJ. Trust me ... covering American Idol would not be "fun" - unless you particularly enjoy watching incredibly vain, talentless wannabees humiliate themselves in front of a panel of judges who ran out of original insights about 5 years ago.

Sorry, I cannot hide my contempt for American Idol!

What can I say? I'm a glutton for punishment. Plus, I think it's kind of wrong for me to hate a show without ever having watched an entire episode. And, the fodder for mockery is endless.
